🏈 Football Equipment List 🏈

Is this your first year participating at Southport Youth Football? Wondering what your child will need to participate this year? I have put together a list of items that you will need to purchase/pick up to be ready for the upcoming season. Below is a list for tackle football:

‼️ Required to Purchase ‼️

☑️ CLEATS
- Common team colors are red, white, black, and grey.

☑️ MOUTH PIECE
- We recommend finding one that your child feels comfortable with, and then buying a couple extra to keep on hand for when it gets lost.

☑️ PRACTICE JERSEY & PANTS
- Red, white, black, grey are recommended colors.

‼️ Provided by League ‼️

☑️ HELMET
- The league will provide each player with a helmet to be used for this season. This helmet will be required to be turned back in at the end of the year.

☑️ SHOULDER PADS
- The league will provide each player with a pair of shoulder pads to be used for this season. These shoulder pads will be required to be turned back in at the end of the year.

☑️ GAME UNIFORM
- Your player will receive a game jersey and game pants.  Player will keep both at the end of the season.

‼️Common Items that are Not Required/Provided ‼️

These are only a few of the optional items that players tend to use throughout the season that are acceptable, but are not required nor provided by the league.

☑️ HARD SHELL CHIN STRAP
- These can purchased at your local sporting goods store.

☑️ RIB PROTECTOR
- Usually worn by running backs or quarterbacks. Variations of this item could be a shirt with integrated pads or a protector that attaches to the shoulder pads.

☑️ BACK PLATE
- Fastens to the back of players shoulder pads and protects the lower portion of the back exposed under shoulder pads.

☑️ GLOVES
- These can be padded lineman gloves or wide receiver gloves.

☑️ VISOR
- If your player is to purchase a visor, it needs to be clear with no color tint. Tinted visors are not acceptable for play.

☑️ FOOTBALL
- Sizes:
1/2 Grade- K2
3/4 Grade- TDJ
5/6 Grade- TDJ

- Buy your child a football and play at home. The best way to improve as a player is to play at home. Throw, catch, snap, kick, pretend your in the super bowl, just have fun. Your players will remember these moments more than any junior league game that they won or lost.

Hopefully this list helps those of you with questions as to what you will need for this season.
